A lot of people have been asking me lately Does Cantu cause hair loss. I’ve never had a client tell me they experienced hair loss from Cantu products, but I researched more about this concern.
If you use Cantu wrongly, it does cause hair loss. Many people have been saying this is a good product for natural hair.

But they are coming up with many negative reviews on Amazon .com about the product. Cantu shampoo and conditioner cause hair loss.
Regarding Cantu causing hair loss, I have found that many people who experience hair loss from this product use it because it contains castor oil.
How to use Cantu without hair loss
Use it sparingly. Don’t use it for your entire head. It is not good to use shampoo every day. If you are using the product to grow your hair, make sure to use it as a weekly or bi-weekly treatment (2 or 3 times per month).
Cantu also contains glycerin, which is not good for hair. Glycerin is a humectant that absorbs and retains moisture from the environment. In turn, it causes hair to absorb water from the air, leading to frizziness and dryness.
Pros and cons of using Cantu shampoo and conditioner
The Pros of Cantu for natural hair:
Detanglers – Cantu has detangling properties. This is a good alternative if you don’t want to use the Organix brand that contains glycerin.
Dandruff control – it’s also marketed as being beneficial for dandruff sufferers.
The Cons of Cantu:
Glycerin – This is a humectant (meaning it attracts and retains moisture). That’s not always good for hair.
Hair needs to “breathe.” Glycerin can cause frizziness, dryness, and even breakage in some cases. It will make your hair feel soft, but that’s only because it absorbs moisture from the air.
Castor oil – This ingredient isn’t so bad for some people. Still, you can get away with not using Cantu if this is one of the ingredients you are trying to avoid.
Yes, castor oil does have its benefits (such as promoting hair growth), but it can also cause hair loss if not used correctly.
Overuse – It’s super heavy. Many people overdo it with the product because they don’t want to spend money going to their stylist or barber.
When you do that, your scalp gets clogged up with all this product which is not healthy.
Castor Oil Warning for Cantu Shampoo and Conditioner
The castor oil ingredient in the shampoo and conditioner is known to cause hair loss. The percentage of Castor Oil is 2%.
It can be found at the very bottom of the ingredients list. An ingredient in Cantu shampoo and conditioner that may be causing hair loss is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).
Now, I understand that people love the product because of the price. People are constantly complaining about how expensive natural hair products are.
However, if you’re using something that’s killing your hair every day, you might want to reconsider using it. In my opinion, you get what you pay for.
In addition, if hair loss is your concern, the use of Cantu should be limited (1-2 times a month). Other natural ingredients can be added to replace castor oil to produce the same results without causing breakage and hair loss.
In fact, I have found a great replacement for castor oil that’s organic. This ingredient can be used to replace the use of Castor Oil in your shampoo and conditioner. It is called Sweet Almond Oil.
